Interventional Pain & Spine · Anesthesiology
Interventional spine and joint care focused on getting you off opioids.
Dr. Andrew Vargas applies the same principles he learned at UCSF to caring for patients with chronic painful conditions. His aim is to define and diagnose the underlying painful problem and apply interventional techniques to improve pain, function and quality of life — so his patients can enjoy the good health of their youth as long as possible. He specializes in targeted diagnostic injections, cortisone injections, platelet-rich plasma injections, radiofrequency ablation and neuromodulation.
Double board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine, he completed his residency in anesthesia and perioperative care and a fellowship in chronic pain management at UCSF, where he also serves as a Clinical Instructor. Because every patient’s experience of pain is unique, he considers underlying medical problems to optimize treatment and outcomes. His practice takes a limited role in systemic medication management, with careful patient selection and a tailored, multimodal approach aimed at eliminating the use of opioid pain medications — empowering patients in active treatments that maintain strength and flexibility, alongside chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists and psychologists.
